Florianópolis, Brasil is located in Southern Brasil and is the largest island in the country. The island consists of a total of 42 beaches. Florianópolis has some of the best beaches in Brasil. Unfortunately, many foreigners are unaware of this Brazilian oasis. The island is visited by mostly Brazilians so it is very different compared to going to Rio de Janeiro where you would find a lot of foreigners. Lets discuss how to know Florianópolis?

During my exploration of Florianópolis, I visited a total of five beaches and a lake over a one week period. Each beach has a different feel. Some of the beaches have a more family feel with many families and others have a more single person feel with people hanging out with their friends. Overall, the beaches are clean and surrounded by hills.

The first beach I explored was Daniela Beach. This beach is more a family and singles beach combined. The shoreline is very small on this beach so it feels very crowded when there are a lot of people on the beach. But the views are great once you are on the beach so the small shoreline won’t matter.

The next place explored was Conceição Lake. This lake sits in the center of several beaches in Florianópolis. This lake is more like a beach in itself. The lake is huge and the water isn’t deep and warm and you can walk really far into the lake. The lake is a very popular attraction in Florianópolis. The lake is more like a beach where you will find many people sitting around in the grass and sand that surrounds the lake.

In exploring Florianópolis the next beach visited was Mole Beach. This was the most scenic beach out of all the beaches explored in Florianópolis. Now this beach was more of a singles beach with a younger crowd. The rock formations on Mole beach are spectacular. Now the water is very cold and the waves are strong on this beach.

The next beach explored was Ingleses Beach. This beach had a combination of families and non families. The beach has a local feel which there were even a group of men playing Samba music on the beach. All the beaches in Florianópolis have people selling food, drinks, sunglasses, and hats.

To the south of the island is the beach, Pantano do Sul. This beach was the most laid back and had the least amount of people compared to all the beaches explored in Florianópolis. The south of the island has some gorgeous views.

The last beach and the most popular beach explored in Florianópolis is Joaquina Beach. Everyone goes to this beach so it was the most crowded with many families and non families enjoying the beach. The beach water can be on the cold side in Southern Brasil but the water on this beach wasn’t too bad.

Besides exploring the beaches of Florianópolis, I would also recommend taking a boat ride in Central Florianópolis to view the city Skyline and the bridges that connect the island to the mainland. The boat ride is very cheap and you will enjoy the views from the boat.

Florianópolis is a great place to visit in Brasil outside of the usual tourist places of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador. I would recommend you go during the summer months of Brasil which are December through March so you can enjoy the hot weather and cool off on the beach. And make sure you have your share of caipirinhas while visiting any of the great beaches in Florianópolis.

  1. I know you travel to Brazil (Brazil) often, did you experience or hear of any safety issues? (I def want to go and have an authentic experience.

    1. It really depends where you go in Brasil just like the US. Some of the larger cities like Rio and São Paulo would be more dangerous than some of smaller places like Florianópolis. The same precautions you would take in a large city in the US you would take there. Overall, I never had an issue with crime but I would stay out of the flavas unless you go with a local.
